Important Information Ahead of Hash Bash 2026

Ahead of the upcoming Hash Bash on the Diag on April 4, 2026, the University of Michigan Police Department (UMPD) is sharing important information regarding marijuana use and applicable laws on the University of Michigan campus. While marijuana is legal under Michigan state law for individuals 21 years of age and older, it remains a federally controlled substance and may not be used or possessed anywhere on University of Michigan property, including university buildings and outdoor spaces governed by university policy.

At this time, no permits have been issued authorizing sales or distribution of any kind on University of Michigan or surrounding public property in the City of Ann Arbor. UMPD, in coordination with the Ann Arbor Police Department (AAPD), will be present and actively enforcing applicable state laws, and university policies. Violations related to unlawful sales or distribution, unpermitted events, public consumption in restricted areas, disorderly conduct, traffic obstruction, or other criminal offenses may result in citations or arrest.

For individuals planning to attend or be in the area during Hash Bash on April 4, 2026, public safety remains the top priority. Attendees are encouraged to make responsible choices, plan ahead for transportation, avoid impaired driving, respect private property, and comply with lawful orders from officers. UMPD is coordinating closely with regional partners to ensure a coordinated public safety response focused on maintaining a safe campus and community environment for students, residents, and visitors.

If you are attending Hash Bash and need assistance during the event, call 911 in an emergency. For non-emergency concerns, contact UMPD at 734-763-1131. Community members are encouraged to look out for one another and seek help early if a situation becomes unsafe. UMPD remains committed to ensuring that the campus and surrounding community remain safe, accessible, and welcoming for all.
